Lemongrass (al-Ith-khir)

Benefits and Usage

In the Sahih it is narrated that the Prophet sallaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam said in Makkah about its plants:

"Do not cut its plants."

Al-Abbas radhi 'Allaahu anhu said, "Except for Al- Ith-khir. O Messenger of Allaah sallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, for their (the people of Makkah) servants use it and it is also used for their houses." The Prophet sallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said:

"Except Al-Ith-khir."

Lemongrass is hot in the second degree and dry in the first degree. It is a light substance that opens the clogs and the vein's orifices.  It also increases urine and menstruation-flow, dissolves the stones and the hard tumours in the stomach, liver and kidneys, either as a drink or as a bandage.  The stems of the lemongrass will strengthen the column of the teeth and the stomach, calm nausea and constipate the stomach.
